Judging by the fact that our free summer drink and Doughnut contest only received 18 entries, I’m guessing either, 1) pairing drinks wtih Doughnuts is too hard, or 2) one free Krispy Kreme Chiller plus a few Doughnuts isn’t enough to motivate contest participation and this contest was probably stupid. To get all of us Doughnut eaters in the summer spirit, Blognut is giving away coupons for Krispy Kreme’s new Caribbean Chiller. It’s a summer-y frosty fruity-type drink involving tropical flavors like pineapple and mango and not quite as tropical flavors like orange. The drink comes either creamy or frozen and is meant to be paired with KK’s seasonal Caribbean Kreme Doughnut - reviewed here - which is why all you have to do to win is comment on this post with an inventive and/or delicious sounding Doughnut and drink pairing. An example might be an Oreo topped Doughnut paired with whole milk. Or feel free to just name your favoriate coffee and Doughnut combination (ie, black with an old fashioned). Five lucky winners will receive a coupon for a free Chiller, and our top three choices will also receive coupons for a free dozen of Krispy Kreme’s original glazed Doughnuts.

It’s official. The results from Blognut’s The Simpsons Movie soundtrack giveaway contest are in. After weeding through nearly a thousand delicious-sounding possibilities (and plenty of nauseating varieties) we’ve selected a winner. So let’s give a big thumbs-up to Sumintra W for her prize-worthy creation: A ginger-flavored, raised-Doughnut filled with fresh ginger creme and bits of lemon zest, topped with a light lemon glaze. Nicely done! And as promised, this coming weekend I’ll be loading my Dutch-oven up with oil and attempting to fry this spicy and complicated concoction right here in the Blognut kitchen.

And now the runners-up, who will be receiving assorted The Simpsons Movie memorabilia.

So one thing I’ve learned here is that guys suck at designing Doughnuts that don’t involve pizza or cheeseburgers. I got a ton of dude-born savory ideas, many of which I wanted to eat, but most of which failed to meet the contest criteria that submissions must be at least partially sweet. Also, to all of you who submitted “Key Lime,” you’ll be happy to know our Nation’s two larget Pop-Nut dealers - DD and KK - both serve their own version of the Key Lime Doughnut; and to those craving “Chocolate,” I assure you this flavor already exists.

No one’s done more for the Doughnut in the past 20 years than Homer Simpson. The man’s so obsessed he was even eaten by a chocolate glazed on a planet populated entirely by giant Doughnuts. So in honor of our bald friend from Springfield, Blognut is giving away a free copy of the Limited Edition version of The Simpson’s Movie Soundtrack (Release date: July 24th, 2007). All you really need to know is that the CD COMES INSIDE A DOUGHNUT (Homer’s favorite, the pink-frosted of course) and, in addition to a very orchestral version of The Simpsons theme song, includes tracks like “Trapped like Carrots,” “What’s an Epiphany?” and – that’s right – “Thank You Boob Lady.” The soundtrack is scored by Academy and Grammy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer (The Da Vinci Code, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean), who incidentally played keyboard for The Buggles. Like the “Video Killed the Radio Star” Buggles.

All you have to do to participate is click the contest panel (over there on the right) and submit the dream Doughnut flavor you’ve always wanted but couldn’t find or were too afraid to ask for. Anything goes, so long as it’s fried, doughy, and at least partially sweet. Whichever Doughnut we here at Blognut want to eat most, wins.
