Portland, OR’s Voodoo Doughnut - the inventive, perverted and bright pink Doughnut shop where Mrs. B and I renewed our wedding vows on our first anniversary - has opened a second shop. Co-owner Cat Daddy plans on hosting a wiffleball league and bike-in movies at the new location and the menu will be nearly the same as the original - save one addition: the “Sandy Hut.” It’s a purple frosted covered in Oreos in honor of the purple restaurant across the street which I’m assuming has an Oreo-colored roof.

Dominican Donut

Sorry to leave those pictures of Britt’s up so long - I was in the Dominican Republic for a best friend’s wedding and got really sunburned and it hurt to type. The morning after the hitching we celebrated the occasion with a sugar-coated cake Donut and a pile of plantain chips at the complimentary resort buffet.

Britt’s is a Carolina boardwalk legend that serves only one type of Donut - a raised glazed fried a little longer than ususal resulting in a crispy brown exterior and soft airy insides.

Unexpected Day-job Donut

Posted in Gift of Donut on June 5th, 2008 - 4 Comments

Sometimes when there are no Donut happenings to blog about one just shows up under my nose. Literally.

I came back to my desk today at day-job and there was medium-sized cake Donut sitting on a napkin not 10 inches from my nose. My coworker David M was given an identical doughnut by a coworker I haven’t met and being the kind-hearted man he is, was nice enough to bring me one. It was a soft and moist apple cider purchased “at the green market on the traffic triangle at 66th and Broadway,” according to the coworker I haven’t met. She emailed David with the specifics after the fact.

The unexpected Donut is pictured above next to my new cow mousepad - which has really tied the cube together by the way - and the post-it in the top-right is a reminder that today it was my turn to buy the M&Ms. David and I split a bag every afternoon.
